Residents at a local nursing home in New Iberia are seeking a few pen pals to brighten their days.
New Iberia Manor South in New Iberia says that their residents could use a bit of cheering up and hope that the public can send letters to do that.
The nursing home posted a plea on Facebook asking for letters from all over the United States. They shared photos of their residents holding signs with their names and favorite activities and interests. They also share their names and address of the facility so the public can send letters to them.
Officials with the nursing home say the residents might even teach their pen pals a thing or two about life.
"Our senior citizens have some of the greatest knowledge of any group of people," said Administrator of New Iberia Manor South Kevin Doerr. "They have been there. They have done that. Whatever it is that you want to talk about, whether it's gardening or religion or food, sharing recipes - these are the ones that have the expertise and the experience."
