One man has been arrested in connection with a recent shooting, and New Iberia Police say more arrests are imminent.

Amiri Benoit, 20, was booked Monday with first-degree murder, two counts attempted first-degree murder and aggravated assault with a firearm. He remains in the Iberia Parish jail late Tuesday; his bond is set at $1 million.

Benoit was booked in connection with the October 1 shooting that happened on Buckeye Street. The shooting left Bryson Charles, 24, dead.

The New Iberia Police Department says that in the early morning hours of October 1, officers responded to the 800 block of Buckeye Street in reference to a report of shots fired in the area.

An investigation revealed several individuals were gathered in the area for unknown reasons when an unknown suspect(s) fired upon the group.

Several individuals were struck by gunfire, including Charles, who later died of his injuries, police say.
