A New Iberia woman was killed Monday afternoon during a two-vehicle crash on LA Hwy 674 in Iberia Parish.
Troopers say the crash occurred around 5:00 pm on October 12 near Blanchard Road. The crash took the life of 58-year-old Somvang Sinsayarath.
An initial investigation by State Police revealed Sinsayarath was driving east on LA 674 when she failed to negotiate a curve. Troopers say she lost control of her vehicle which then crossed the center line and continued into the path of a westbound vehicle.
Sinsayarath was restrained at the time of the crash.
She was pronounced dead at the scene by the Iberia Parish Coroner’s Office.
The driver of the other vehicle was properly restrained, along with a juvenile passenger. The two were treated at a local hospital for minor injuries.
Impairment is unknown but standard toxicology samples were obtained from both drivers, troopers say.
State Police say the crash remains under investigation.
