Arrest made in fatal shooting in New Iberia

UPDATE: New Iberia Police Department, Criminal Investigation Division, along with assistance from the community were able to identify a shooting suspect.

Cleveland Ayro, 35, was booked into Iberia Parish Jail around midnight last night on charges of:

  • 2nd Degree Murder
  • Aggravated Criminal Damage to Property
  • Possession of a Stolen Firearm
  • Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon
  • Resisting an Officer


The New Iberia Police Department are investigating a Friday night fatal shooting that took place at the intersection of Verna and Emily Streets.

According to NIPD spokesperson Sgt. Daesha Hughes, officers responded to the intersection of Verna and Emily Street around 12:24 p.m. on Friday afternoon.

Officers located a black male victim with a single gunshot wound who was transported to a nearby hospital where he later died from his injuries.

NIPD is asking for help from the public to identify the suspect.
