New Iberia City Councilwoman Natalie Lopez was arrested Friday night and is facing several charges, including driving while intoxicated.
Lopez was involved in a crash Friday, according to New Iberia Police spokesperson Sgt. Daesha Hughes. Officers responded to the crash, and Lopez was arrested shortly after 9 p.m.
According to booking records, Lopez is facing charges of driving while intoxicated, no liability insurance, battery of a police officer, and careless operation of a vehicle. Booking information also shows Lopez is not currently in jail as of Saturday afternoon.
Lopez was also arrested in January of this year on charges of DWI, along with child endangerment, resisting an officer, and other violations.
The Daily Iberian reports that Lopez addressed the arrest at a city council meeting a short time after the incident, apologizing to her constituents and saying the past year had been traumatic for her and her family. Read more on that here.
