Over the weekend, New Iberia will be giving out masks to the public to help protect residents from the spread of COVID-19.
Councilwoman Natalie Broussard announced the distribution which will begin on Saturday at 8:30 a.m. At New Iberia Senior High School bus loop on Admiral Doyle. It will continue until supplies are depleted.
A limited number of masks, which were procured by council members will be distributed throughout the community.
Those in need of masks are asked to drive through the bus loop and remain in their vehicles where a volunteer will distribute the mask. A limit of five masks will be distributed per vehicle due to limited supply.
"We have learned that this virus means different things to different people. Some members of our community may be more susceptible to risk than others. That is why we want to give those who may not have been able to secure masks an opportunity to receive one. We are doing much of this together as a community, while learning on the fly. " said Broussard, who organized the event.
The cloth masks were provided to public agencies within Louisiana through a donation from Hanesbrand Inc.
