Man killed in early morning shooting in New Iberia

A 24-year-old man is dead following a shooting in New Iberia on Thursday morning.

The Iberia Parish coroners office released the identity of the man killed on Buckeye Street as Bryson Charles of New Iberia.

The New Iberia Police Department says that in the early morning hours of October 1, officers responded to the 800 block of Buckeye Street in reference to a report of shots fired in the area.

An investigation revealed several individuals were gathered in the area for unknown reasons when an unknown suspect(s) fired upon the group.

Several individuals were struck by gunfire, including Bryson Charles who later died of his injuries, police say.

Evidence was collected at the scene and police say an investigation is ongoing.
