The Louisiana National Guard Enlisted Association hosted their second annual On a Mission fishing tournament.

The event, held at Don's Boat Landing in Erath, raises money to support Louisiana National Guard soldiers and airmen.

In addition to the fishing competition, there also was a silent auction, a raffle and a jambalaya lunch.

The association is made up of guardsmen who raise money to help their fellow soldiers and airmen, said Rebecca Bourke, director for the army side of the group.

"Our association steps outside of the uniform to fight for the rights and benefits of our guardsmen," she said. "A lot of people don't know that we don't have the same benefits as our active duty counterparts, however, we still deploy."

There are about 11,000 guardsmen in Louisiana, with some of them about to leave for Afghanistan, she said.

"One hundred percent of what we raise goes to our guardsmen," she said. "We're trying to help each other out."
