A Loreauville man has died following a single-vehicle crash in Iberia Parish last week.

Louisiana State Police say at around 11:30 p.m. on September 14, 2020, Troopers responded to a single-vehicle crash on LA Highway 3242 near Walet Road in Iberia Parish. 24-year-old Byson Provost of Loreauville, the driver of the vehicle, died of his injuries on Wednesday, September 23.

An investigation by State Police revealed that the crash occurred as Provost was driving westbound on LA 3242. For unknown reasons, Troopers say he failed to maintain control of his vehicle causing it to exit the roadway. The vehicle struck an embankment, and overturned.

State Police say that Provost and a juvenile front seat passenger were unrestrained at the time of the crash. Both were transported to a local hospital in critical condition. Provost later died from his injuries.

Impairment is unknown and standard toxicology samples were obtained for analysis. State Police say that speed is believed to be a major factor.

The crash remains under investigation.
