JEANERETTE, La. — A Jeanerette man has been arrested on 15 counts of attempted first-degree murder after a drive-by shooting Tuesday in Iberia Parish.

The Iberia Parish Sheriff's Office says that 26-year-old Jonas Hawk was arrested after an investigation into the shooting that injured an 8-year-old outside a home in the 2200 block on N. Neco Town Road.

Deputies say a group of 15 people were outside the home when Hawk allegedly drove by and began shooting into the group.

Investigators say the cause of the shooting stemmed from an ongoing dispute between Hawk and the 8-year-old's uncle.

The 8-year-old was transferred to a Baton Rouge hospital in critical condition.

Hawk was located by the Jeanerette City Marshal's Office and detained.

He was booked into the Iberia Parish Jail on 15 counts of Attempted First Degree Murder.

No bond has been set.

According to court records, Hawk was on probation for a December 2016 charge of resisting an officer and illegal possession of a firearm. He pled down to a lesser charge in May 2019 in exchange for a four year probation sentence.

Hawk also has a 2012 charge of resisting an officer and reckless operation of a vehicle.
