A Jeanerette man is facing a charge of simple arson after State Fire Marshal deputies say he set his girlfriend's mobile home on fire over the weekend.

33-year-old Jonathon Edwards was booked into the Iberia Parish Jail after an investigation into the fire, which occurred in the 400 block of Minvielle Boulevard. At around midnight on January 2, the Jeanerette Fire Department requested the assistance of the SFM to determine the origin and cause of the mobile home fire.

Following an assessment of the scene and collecting witness statements, deputies determined the fire originated on the outside of the trailer and was intentionally set. Investigators learned the trailer in question was owned by Edwards' girlfriend and that he lived there with her.

Witnesses reported seeing Edwards standing outside of the mobile home, watching it burn and doing nothing to attempt to put the fire out.

Edwards refused an interview with deputies and was placed under arrest in connection with the case.
