A special celebration was held Saturday morning in Jeanerette for a beloved centenarian.
Maria Erna Appel Rodriguez recently turned 106 years old, and her family decided to honor their matriarch's birthday by holding a drive-by parade this weekend.
The Jeanerette Fire and Police Departments assisted with the parade and made it even more special.
Rodriguez is originally from El Salvador but has lived in Louisiana since the 1970s. Before living in Cajun Country, she lived in New York, where she loved attending the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.
She loves sewing and loved to take walks.
Her birthday is on February 22, which is also George Washington's birthday.
A table was set up for gifts as loved ones and fellow Jeanerette residents drove past, celebrating Mrs. Maria's special day.
Happy birthday, Mrs. Maria!!
