The conflict over two members of the Iberia Medical Center's board is escalating.

After those two board members, Dr. David Benson and Frederick "Bozo" Metz, refused to resign, an item that would authorize the hiring of an attorney to investigate them has been placed on the board's Thursday agenda.

The CEO of the hospital, Parker Templeton, resigned and issued a scathing statement regarding the board members' actions. Dozens of members of the medical staff of the hospital signed a petition calling on them to resign, and the board already has asked them to resign or face an investigation. The parish council passed a resolution in support of an investigation.

Iberia Parish council chairman Paul Landry said the parish council support the boards decision for an investigation. Landry says the two are affecting day to day operations.

"Thousands people being upset and effected by this and at the snap of the finger it could be resolved by two resignations," Landry said.

As of now, neither member has resigned. Landry says the council has to have cause to remove the members.

"There were controversies and abuse of things, so that's why investigators will come in, they get can a clear of picture of whats going on. It'll be individuals that have never worked with the hospital, have nothing to do with it, lawyers that know what they're looking for," he said.

The meeting will begin at 5:30 pm in the board's conference room at the IMC main campus.
