During a Thursday night meeting, the Iberia Medical Center Board of Directors approved the creation of 20 permanent negative-pressure rooms for COVID-19 patient care.
According to the Daily Iberian, up to $240,000 will be spent to create the rooms for the facility which began with three negative-pressure rooms at the start of the virus outbreak and grew to 45 on a temporary basis.
Chief Executive Officer Dionne Viator tells the newspaper that creating the permanent rooms will allow them to operate in inclement conditions, as opposed to the temporary setups.
The plan, they say, is to have the rooms completed by December 31.
