New Iberia residents got the chance to relax and enjoy various films this weekend.
The Iberia Film Festival was held Saturday at the Essanee Theater.
Sponsored by Iberia Performing Arts League (IPAL), the festival featured various genres of short films, including horror, documentaries, narrative, and animation. The films came from everywhere, some local and some from around the world.
This year's festival varied from years past because of the pandemic; social distancing was in place, masks were required, and usual concessions weren't available. The festival received many submissions, and judges decided on 15 films to show at the event. 10 of those were local. Awards were announced after the final film screening.
Boyance said there are a lot of filmmakers in the Acadiana area, and he hopes they continue doing films, especially local creatives. He adds that the festival provides a venue to showcase their talent.
