Band practice looks and sounds different in the era of the coronavirus.

"Playing with the instruments, a lot of things go into the air, so I think we need to follow the guidelines," said Chelsea Antoine, a junior at Westgate High School.

On Friday nights, these students will be able to play their instruments in the stands but with a few precautions because of the pandemic.

The members will follow social distancing and use instrument covers to prevent the spread of any airborne particles.

"It's kind of depressing because this is where everything happens," said Senior Drum Major Aaron Narcisse.

While for some students it isn't as much fun practicing in small groups, teachers are doing their part to make sure they stay on track in the band room.

"We spend a lot of time developing our reading, and building a stronger foundation," said Percy Williams, Band Director at Westgate

With a foundation in place, students will return to the field help to cheer on their team.

"I love football season, I'm very excited to get back into it, its very important that we follow our protocols, the time will come I'm keeping an open mind," Williams said.
