Residents in Jeanerette and the surrounding area were able to pick up food at a distribution site Wednesday in the city.

The site was a collaboration between SMILE Community Action Agency and Second Harvest Food Bank. Those needing food visited to the St. Mary Civic Center at 1498 Hwy 318 in Jeanerette to pick up meals.

Distribution happened from 2:00 pm until 4:00 p.m.

One of the organizers of today's event said he and other volunteers received a lot of thanks for people who passed through.

"There is a lot of folks who are out of work right now. There is a lot of uncertainty. There is a lot of folks saying 'Thank you' and 'God bless you,'" explained Jay Vise, Communications Director for Second Harvest. "All of this that we are donating here today from Second Harvest was donated to us by way of a stray donation or a monetary donation that let us buy this. It was given to us in love we are just happy to pass it along in the same spirit."
