Iberia Parish Sheriff's Deputies assisted an elderly woman after responding to a complaint regarding the woman earlier this week.
Deputies received the complaint on Sunday, February 21, concerning an elderly woman allegedly trying to lure children into a van in the Bon Road/Hwy 14 area of the parish.
Detectives located the alleged suspect and determined the woman was looking for discarded items on the side of the road. Deputies say her vehicle was filled with trash; the sheriff's office notified elderly protection of the incident.
Sheriff Tommy Romero used the incident to remind parents to speak with their children about how they handle danger. One way is to teach them, "No, Go, Yell, Tell" - in a dangerous situation, children should say no, run away, yell as loud as they can, and tell a trusted adult about what happened right away.
Romero said he is thankful that this is what the children and family did in this situation.
