The person who died last night in a shooting on Johnston Street in New Iberia was 12 years old.
The Iberia Parish Coroner's Office is refusing to identify the victim. He would have turned 13 in August.
The victim's brother also was shot in the incident, police say he remains in stable but critical condition in an area hospital.
The shooting happened at about 7 p.m. in the 500 block of Johnston Street.

There was another, unrelated shooting about three hours before that, just a few blocks away on Rogers Street. Police say that victim is being treated at an area hospital as well.
