A fire in a metal building closed St. Peter Street in New Iberia today.

Fire Chief Gordan Copell said no injuries in the fire.

It started in a metal building, where someone was using some kind of spray booth. The people using the building did not have an occupational license for what they were doing there, the chief said.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, he said.

The street was closed for a while, because the fire hydrant was on the other side of the road, the chief said.

Residents nearby may have heard paint drums exploding, he said. He said there were at least 100 gallons of paint in the building, and the fumes were pretty bad, but his firefighters are OK.
