The Bristow Group has made the decision to end flight and maintenance operations at two locations in Louisiana
In an emailed statement, a Bristow spokesperson confirmed that the New Iberia maintenance and hangar complex and Gilliano heliport will close resulting in the reduction of employees.
The company says that the administration and training facilities in New Iberia will remain open to support operations in the Gulf of Mexico and globally.
Bristow's Search and Rescue operations in Galliano will also not be affected.
According to the spokesperson, the decisions were made due to market conditions and the Bristow Group's recent merger with Era Helicopters.
Also considered in the decision was, "the long-term viability and success of our business in the Gulf of Mexico region."
Bristow says there is no determination as to the number of jobs that will be affected by the closures. The company says that number will be less than 350 at both locations.
"We are currently working through the process for determining the full impacts of the decisions, which will ultimately determine the final number," the spokesperson said.
Employees were notified Wednesday, August 5, of the closures.
