A bicyclist was killed Friday morning following at two-vehicle crash on LA Hwy 14 near LA Hwy 676 in Iberia Parish.

State Police says the crash occurred around 1:00 am on August 7 and claimed the life of an unidentified man.

An investigation by State Police found the crash occurred as the bicyclist was traveling westbound in the center of the outside travel lane of LA 14. State Police say the bicycle was not equipped with lights in front or behind.

At the same time, a vehicle traveling in the westbound lane approached the bicyclist from the rear and was unable to avoid the bicycle. The vehicle struck the bicycle from behind, ejecting the bicyclist, troopers say.

The bicyclist, who has not been identified, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Iberia Parish Coroner's Office.

Toxicology samples have been obtained from the bicyclist and results are pending, according to troopers.

The driver of the vehicle was properly restrained at the time of the crash and was uninjured. A breath sample obtained from the driver indicated no alcohol in her system, troopers say.

This crash remains under investigation.
