Parish President Larry Richard says he's satisfied with progress in Iberia following flooding and damage from Barry.

"Things are going as well as could be expected right now," Richard said. "the big concern is power outages."

Richard said Cleco has brought the number of customers down from 26,000 without power to about 4,500. Entergy started with 3,000 customers out and now is down to about 800 as of Monday afternoon. He said he feels both companies are working hard to restore power.

"They're doing a very good job," he said. "They're really putting it out there."

The parish public works crews are clearing debris from roads, and the sewer district is back up and running properly with no issues, he said.

Richard said the new notification system implemented recently got a trial by fire and seems to be working well. The first test was just a week ago, he said.

"We're able to notify so many people so much quicker with it," Richard said.

Water that had flooded the Port of Iberia has receded, and assessments are underway, he said.
