LAFAYETTE, La. - Ochsner Lafayette General is clarifying that COVID-19 vaccines are not available to the general public.

OnTuesday, health care workers at the hospital received the vaccine. Those who work closest with COVID-19 patients are getting the shots first and the vaccination process for health care workers will continue through January.

On Wednesday, a line of people at the hospital's COVID testing and flu vaccine site were waiting to get the COVID vaccine, which are not available to the general public yet, according to a spokesperson for the hospital.

Ochsner Lafayette Genreal has been doing testing for the novel coronavirus in the community since May.

In October, they started administering flu vaccines in that same drive-thru setting. The drive-thru is open Wednesday, Thursday and Friday this week from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Domingue Recreational Center. Click here for more details.

It will be several months before the COVID vaccine is available to the general public.
