LAFAYETTE, LA — On what would have been her 78th birthday Governor John Bel Edwards proclaimed December 15 as Kathleen Babineaux Blanco Public Policy Center Day in Louisiana.

The Governor issued a statement on Tuesday following the proclamation:

"The life and work of Kathleen Blanco continue to inspire Louisianans," Gov. Edwards said. "Gov. Blanco broke many barriers as she worked tirelessly to make this state better for all of its people, and the Kathleen Babineaux Blanco Public Policy Center at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette continues to carry that legacy. Through research and collaboration on issues like poverty, criminal justice reform, healthcare, the environment, and economic opportunity, the policy center has helped provide policymakers and the public with the information necessary to empower and improve communities across Louisiana."

UL established the Kathleen Babineaux Blanco Public Policy Center in honor of the former governor who was the first female governor of Louisiana.

The Kathleen Babineaux Blanco Public Policy Center opened in August of 2019.
