A 9th inning run pushed the Victoria Generals past the Cane Cutters in the season opener, souring Acadiana's 10th anniversary celebration Tuesday night.

Fabacher Field was held to strict phase II guidelines. Lafayette Consolidated Government told KATC that its 200 person gathering limit didn't apply to the games.

Fans were spaced out, had temperatures checked at the gate and sanitization stations were available too. Fans said getting out to the ballpark was a welcome slice of normal.

"My son plays baseball at Southern Mississippi," said a former Cajun football player Billy Garrity. "This is a blessing to come see him play here, and not up at Cape Cod or something. We live four hours away and its easy to come here and watch."

"Just being able to get outside and see America's past time, watch these kids gel, and the camaraderie these kids have," said parent Mike Adams.

Acadiana hosts Victoria Wednesday at 7 p.m.
