Some families are using their extended weekend to spend time on the water, but despite the recent ease of rules for traveling, some plans are still being diverted.

"We were supposed to be in Panama," Aja Wilson said.

Like many families, Wilson says their Florida vacation was canceled.

"It was a family vacation, we booked a condo and they canceled our reservations. My family is still going to Grand Isle, but I said we can find something," Wilson says.

For now, that something is a day trip to Cypremort Point. Wilson prepares lunch with her friend, while their kids play in the water. Going to the beach is something this family has been looking forward since before the pandemic.

"We pulled up, and she (daughter) was like oh my god, like we going swimming, so I said enjoy yourself, have a good time" Wilson said.

She says they usually spend holidays at home, but since we've moved into phase one of reopening, it was time to get outdoors.

"You know, we might go to a local park and let the kids play, but I said something different this year," Wilson explains.

Cypremort Point is open 7 days a week, for park hours click here.

Mask are not required for the beach, but encouraged.
