A Ville Platte man has been arrested for allegedly setting his father's outdoor kitchen on fire last week.

Joshua Weathersby, 29, was booked into the Evangeline Parish Jail on one count of Simple Arson. According to the State Fire Marshal's Office, the Ville Platte Fire Department requested their assistance late on Friday, September 5, to determine that origin and cause of a residential fire in the 1800 block of State Avenue.

Deputies learned that the homeowner reported having watched his son, Weathersby, set his outdoor kitchen on fire.

With the help of the Ville Platte Police Department, Weathersby was located and taken into custody. In an interview with SFM deputies, Weathersby admitted to setting the fire out of aggravation for having to sleep in the outdoor kitchen area where he had seen rodents.

Weathersby was then placed under arrest.
