Two men were arrested and booked with battery after they beat another man nearly unconscious at a convenience store in Evangeline Parish.*

The man they beat was booked with possession of stolen things.

It's against the law to assault someone because you think they stole your possessions, deputies say.

The incident happened Sunday at about 7 p.m., a release from the Evangeline Parish Sheriff's Office states.

Deputies arrived at a convenience store on Chataignier Road. They were told that a man, Michael Arvie, was in possession of a four wheeler that allegedly had been stolen from Flat Town Farm Supply in Ville Platte. Arvie allegedly had stopped to get gas at the store.

Three other men then arrived at the store before deputies arrived, and witnesses said two of them entered the store and assaulted Arvie until he was nearly unconscious, the release states.

An ambulance was called for Arvie, who was examined and transported to a hospital with injuries to his eye.

Deputies obtained warrants for Terald Vidrine and Ryan Vidrine, who is alleged to be the owner of the four-wheeler, on charges of second-degree battery. They surrendered to police this morning and were booked.

There's a warrant for Arvie on a charge of with possession of stolen property. He has not been arrested yet, the release states.
