A 22-year-old woman was killed Sunday night after a single-vehicle crash on I-49 in Evangeline Parish.

State Police say the crash happened around 7:45 pm on June 21 on I-49 near mile post 43 just north of LA Hwy 29.

The crash claimed the life of Destiny Ates of Pollock.

Troopers say a preliminary investigation revealed that the driver of the vehicle was traveling southbound on I-49 when, for unknown reasons, he ran off the roadway and struck a guardrail.

After impact, troopers say the vehicle began to overturn in the median.

Despite being properly restrained, Ates suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead by the St. Landry Parish Coroner's Office.

The driver, who was unrestrained at the time of the crash, was ejected fro the vehicle and received moderate injuries.

A 7-month-old child also in the vehicle at the time of the crash was properly restrained and received minor injuries.

The driver and child were transported to an area hospital for treatment.

Troopers say impairment is unknown at this time, but toxicology samples were taken from the driver for analysis.

The crash remains under investigation.
