A Eunice man was killed Tuesday night during a head head-on collision with a 18-wheeler on LA 13 in Evangeline Parish.
State Police say the two-vehicle crash happened shortly before 5:00 p.m. on September 22 on LA Highway 13 near Heritage Road in Evangeline Parish.
The crash claimed the life of 21-year-old Deonte Walker of Eunice.
A preliminary investigation by State Police revealed that Walker was traveling north on LA 13 when he crossed the center line a struck an 18-wheeler head-on in the southbound lane of travel. The reasons for the crash are still under investigation.
Troopers says that Walker was unrestrained at the time of the crash along with a front seat passenger.
Walker and his passenger were transported to a local hospital where Walker later died of his injuries. His passenger was treated for moderate injuries.
The driver of the 18-wheeler was properly restrained and was uninjured, troopers say. The driver submitted a breath sample which indicated no alcohol in his system and troopers say he displayed no signs of impairment.
A toxicology sample was taken from Walker and results are pending.
The crash remains under investigation.
