Elementary school teacher arrested in Lafayette

LAFAYETTE — KATC has confirmed with police that a teacher at J. Wallace James elementary is facing charges.

On November 12, Lafayette Police responded to a local school in the 1500 block of W. Willow St. in reference to a battery against a juvenile.

An investigation was conducted and on November 14, an arrest was made. 47-year-old Nicole Landry of Lafayette was charged with Simple Battery, according to police.

The parent of one of the students told us his child was assaulted by an educator at the school.

Landry is listed as a special education teacher on the school's website.

We reached out to the Lafayette Parish School System and who said the following:

Lafayette Parish School System takes all reports of alleged incidents of employee misconduct seriously. We are supporting law enforcement in their investigation and continuing our investigation into this matter. No additional information will be released as this is a personnel matter into which an investigation remains ongoing.
