Results for the April 30, 2022 election

On Saturday, voters headed to the polls for the April 30 election.

A handful of races were on the ballot in the Acadiana, including several runoff elections. Four major elections include Abbeville Police Chief, St. Martinville Mayor, St. Martinville City Council races.

There were no statewide races or statewide ballot issues on the April 30 ballot.

Elections were held in Jeff Davis, Lafayette, St. Landry, St. Martin and Vermilion Parishes

Below is a look at what was on the ballot by parish. These will be updated with results as they come in.

JEFF DAVIS PARISH

School District No. 22 Proposition (Millage Continuation)
Voters said YES to a continuation of a tax for School District No. 22 in Jeff Davis Parish. The special tax provides for the maintenance and improvement of public school buildings in the district.

Welsh-Roanoke Consolidated School District No. One (1) Proposition (Millage Renewal)
Welsh-Roanoke Consolidated School District No. One (1) can continue to levy and collect a special tax for the purpose of providing funds for public school building maintenance, improvement, equipment, materials and supplies in the District.

School District No. 1 Proposition (Millage Continuation)
Voters approved the millage continuation for School District No. 1 for the purpose of providing funds for public school building maintenance, improvement, equipment, materials and supplies in the District.

School District No. 2 Proposition (Millage Renewal)
Voters also approved School District No. 2 to continue to levy and collect a special tax for the purpose of providing funds for public school building maintenance, improvement, equipment, materials and supplies in the District.

School District No. 5 Proposition No. 1 of 2 (Millage Continuation)
Voters said YES to a millage continuation for School District No. 5 for public school building maintenance, improvement

School District No. 5 Proposition No. 2 of 2 (Bond)
Voters said YES to a bond for School District No. 5 for the purpose of financing capital expenditures for school purposes for the District, including constructing, acquiring and/or improving schools and related facilities, together with equipment and furnishings.

School District No. 8 Proposition (Millage Continuation)
Voters said YES for School District No. 8 to continue to levy and collect a special tax for public school building maintenance and improvement.

LAFAYETTE PARISH

Voters in Lafayette Parish voted YES for the continuation of a tax for the Lafayette Centre Developement District. It passed with 70 percent of the vote with an official turnout of 24.6 percent.

ST. LANDRY PARISH

Member of School Board -- District 5
Bianca J. Vedell (NOPTY) has been chosen to represent District 5 for the St. Landry Parish School Board. Vedell secured 57 percent of the vote over Jason Halphen (REP).

Lawtell Gravity Drainage District Proposition (Tax Renewal)
Voters said YES to a tax renewal for Lawtell Gravity Drainage District for the purpose of constructing, maintaining, and/or operating gravity works within and for the District?

ST. MARTIN PARISH

Mayor -- City of St. Martinville
A new mayor has been elected in St. Martinville. Voters have selected Jason Willis as their new head of the city. Willis beat out current Mayor Melina Mitchell. Willias received 58 percent of the vote.

    47.6 percent of voters turned out for the runoff election
    Councilman -- District 4, City of St. Martinville
    Janise Anthony (DEM) was the winner of the District 4 council seat over James "Lil Jimmy" Charles (DEM). Anthony clinched the win with just two votes over Charles.

    Councilman -- District 5, City of St. Martinville
    Florita "Flo" Chatman (DEM) beat out Leander "Cush" Williams (DEM) for the District 5 council seat. Chatman received 56 percent of the vote.

    Sales Tax District No. 1 Proposition (Renewal)
    Voters voted YES to renew a tax for Sales Tax District No. 1 to be dedicated and used for the purposes of constructing, resurfacing, reconstructing and maintaining Parish roads and road bridges within the District.

    Recreation District No. 1 Proposition (Maintenance Tax Renewal)
    Voters in the parish said YES to the renewal of the maintenance tax for Recreation District No. 1

    VERMILION PARISH

    Chief of Police -- City of Abbeville
    Mike Hardy (REP) has been elected as the Chief of Police in Abbeville. Hardy beat out current police chief William "Bill" Spearman by 44 votes , receiving 51 percent of the vote.

    Parishwide School Board Proposition (Sales Tax)
    Voters in Vermilion Parish said NO to a proposed sales tax to be dedicated to increasing the salaries and benefits of school employee.
