The D.R.E.A.M.S. Foundation of Acadiana is now recruiting members of the community with special needs to participate in its Cheer Warriors program.

The cheerleading program begins this fall and goes into Spring 2021 and has been offered by the Foundation since September 2013.

Cheering, the foundation says, is an opportunity for those with special needs to be involved with local activities and be a part of a supportive, inclusive team environment.

“The cheerleaders have participated in competition, UL events, fundraisers, 5K’s and other various activities within the community, such as the Kiwanis Club of Lafayette 68th Annual Football Jamboree last year, which was a huge honor,” stated D.R.E.A.M.S. Executive Director Donielle Watkins in a press release. “The Cheer Warriors have formed lifelong friendships and gained a sense of pride and independence!”

“My dream has always been to be a cheerleader. It makes me happy and it’s fun,” said Hayley Scimemi, D.R.E.A.M.S. Cheer Warrior.

Those interested in becoming a D.R.E.A.M.S. Cheer Warrior can submit an online registration form, here.

The D.R.E.A.M.S. Foundation says that there is no age limit and that applicants can be male or female. There is a one-time $100 uniform fee.

Meetings will be held virtually every Friday at 5:15 pm via Zoom. For more information, email dreamsfoundationaca@gmail.com.

“I love all the D.R.E.A.M.S activities but cheerleading is my favorite because I get to do so many fun things, meet a lot of great people and make great memories!” Ali Wood, D.R.E.A.M.S. Cheer Warrior said.
