ARNAUDVILLE, La. - One Acadiana family found a way to honor a loved one who died from COVID-19 - even while keeping a safe distance.

Charles M. Lalanne, 83, died Thursday, April 23, 2020, at Lafayette General Medical Center.

On Sunday, family and friends participated in a drive-by memorial for Lelanne. The vehicles lined up 45 deep and passed by his wife and daughter's home in Arnaudville.

Vehicles displayed multiple flags and posters in honor of his life. Deputies from the St. Martin Parish Sheriff's Office and an officer from Parks escorted the family and friends as they paid their respects.

Charles honorably served in the United States Army and Louisiana National Guard. He served and retired with 30 years of service. After retirement in the military, he worked for St Martin Sheriff's Office for four years.

He leaves behind family and friends who love him dearly.
