The United State Postal Service says that they are temporarily suspending operations to Louisiana residents within the 706 zip code area due to the effects of Hurricane Laura.

The decision to suspend services was made out of an abundance of caution, and to ensure the safety of both postal customers and employees,

The suspension will be effective Friday, August 28 and continue until further notice.

There will be no delivery or retail services from post offices located in the 706 zip code area.

The Postal Service says they will be monitoring conditions and working to restore service as soon as it is safe to do so.

Updates will be provided daily to keep the public informed about mail delivery and retail operations, they say.
