BATON ROUGE — UPDATE: Governor Edwin Edwards was released from a Baton Rouge hospital after being admitted with trouble breathing.
WBRZ reports that he was diagnosed with rhinovirus, which is the infection better known as the common head cold.
The former 4-term, 93-year-old Governor tested negative for both COVID-19 and pneumonia. Doctors expect him to make a full recovery, WBRZ reports.
His wife, Trina Edwards, said, “We’d like to thank everybody for all the prayers and concern. He’s resting well and is already back to giving orders.”
Edwards was taken to the hospital Friday night. That night, family spokesperson Leo Honeycutt said that Edwards was rushed to the hospital around 4:00 pm and had undergone several tests. He has tested negative for COVID-19 and the flu.
Honeycutt said then that Edwards will be staying overnight at Our Lady of the Lake hospital in Baton Rouge as a precaution.
