Two state troopers were injured early Wednesday morning after being struck by a Hammond Police unit involved in a vehicle pursuit.

State Police say that the troopers were injured, one severely, while retrieving a tire deflation device used to disable the suspect's vehicle on Wardline Road west of I-55.

Both Troopers were transported to the North Oaks Medical Center in Hammond.

One was released with minor injuries while the other remains in critical condition.

State Police joined the Hammond Police Department in the pursuit around 2:15 am within the city limits.

The suspect's vehicle was disabled with the use of the tire deflation device and crashed on Wardline Road at the intersection of Crapanzano Road.

The occupants of the vehicle then fled in an unknown direction, according to State Police.

An investigation to identify the suspects is ongoing.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Hammond Police Department at (985) 277-5702.
