Louisiana State Police say 78-year-old Donna Pelcha of Thibodaux was killed in a multi-vehicle crash in Lafourche Parish.
Officials say Pelcha was stopped on LA Hwy 1, when 33-year-old Luis Berrios failed to stop his vehicle traveling northbound and struck Pelcha's car from behind. The impact then caused Pelcha's vehicle to strike a pickup truck, and Berrios' vehicle rolled onto its side.
Pelcha was transported to a hospital where she later succumbed to her injuries. Restraint use is unknown and impairment is not considered a factor.
Berrios suffered minor injuries. A toxicology sample is pending, but impairment and restraint use are unknown.
Berrios was cited for Careless Operation and further charges may be pending.
