The Alexandria Zoo announced it will open in March following months or cleanup, rebuilding and modifying.
In September, the zoo received damage to numerous enclosures and habitats following Hurricane Laura. The zoo has been working to rebuild and repair since.
In December the zoo announced that the cleanup and recovery has been a long road but they were eager to reopen facilities.
"It’s been a long road with the vast clean-up and recovery, but our team has faced the challenges with the toughness and tenacity that have been the hallmark of the Zoo over its nearly 100-year history. We hope to welcome you back soon so you can see the progress for yourself," the December release states
The zoo has made modifications following pandemic guidelines. On their website, they say that their zoo path is a one-way trail and face masks for guests 8 years old and older are required for visitation.
The zoo will be open on Fridays – Sundays, 9:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. (last entry 3:30 p.m.), beginning March 12.
