President Trump tweeted today his support for both Republican candidates in the Louisiana Gubernatorial election, Ralph Abraham and Eddie Rispone. The president had no kind words for current governor John Bel Edwards.

President Trump described Edwards as a "Nancy Pelosi/Chuck Schumer Democrat who does nothing but stymie all the things we are doing to make America great again..."

A spokesperson for the Edwards campaign says the governor puts people over party and the governor is looking forward to continuing his good working relationship with President Trump. The campaign's full statement is as follows:

It's no surprise that the President is voicing support for members of his own political party. Governor Edwards is focused on his own campaign. Voters know he has a long history of putting Louisiana first and putting people over party. He's worked well with presidents of both parties, including President Trump. He's visited nine times with President Trump, working with him on criminal justice reform, infrastructure and the opioid epidemic. Governor Edwards looks forward to continuing his good working relationship with President Trump in the governor's second term.

Edwards, Abraham and Rispone will face off during a final debate next Wednesday, October 9 in Shreveport.

The debate will be broadcast LIVE on KATC.
