SLIDELL, La. (AP) — A Louisiana man who fell over the side of an interstate into Lake Pontchartrain after a crash was found dead Friday, authorities said.
Louisiana State Police said Thomas Melchionne, 66, fell over the Twin Span bridge on Interstate 10 in St. Tammany Parish Thursday night.
Police responded to the scene around 10:30 p.m. Thursday.
Police said Louis Picolo, 47, was driving on the eastbound side when he rear-ended a Dodge Pickup that was stopped because of a prior crash with a Mercedes Sedan.
Those involved with the crash were standing on the shoulder of the bridge when Picolo crashed into the Dodge, police said.
The impact caused Melchionne to go over the railing, police said.
Police said Picolo wasn’t wearing a seatbelt and a blood sample was taken from him to test for impairment.
Police said the investigation was ongoing.
