The Humane Society of Louisiana ("HSLA"), based out of New Orleans, is hosting two large pet food giveaways at opposite ends of the state today to assist pet owners and rescue organizations affected by Hurricane Laura.

Members of HSLA disaster response teams left earlier today to travel to Otis, Louisiana, in Rapides Parish, and Cameron Parish, where they will coordinate pet food giveaways.

Pet owners may visit the Camp Eight United Pentecostal Church parking lot, located at 2675 Highway 121, Otis, Louisiana, anytime today, Monday, September 7th, between 2 -4 pm to receive cat and/or dog food. The Delta Humane Society out of Rayville, Louisiana, will also be on hand to distribute supplies. Melissa Cole, a resident of Rapides Parish, reached out to HSLA, earlier this week and plans to help distribute pet food with her two teenage sons. Ms. Cole can be reached by calling 318-451-7955.

A second pet food giveaway will also take place today, Monday, September 7th, from 2 - 4 pm in Cameron in front of the Grand Lake High School, 1039 Hwy 384, Lake Charles (It is a Lake Charles address, but is located in Cameron). Rescue Alliance and several other humane organizations will be on hand to distribute additional supplies. Holly Lavergne, a resident of Cameron, contacted HSLA and asked for assistance for pet owners in her area. Ms. Lavergne also helped coordinate the logistics of the Cameron giveaway and can be reached by calling 337-842-6390.

Individuals and businesses in the New Orleans area donated hundreds of bags pet food and HSLA purchased additional supplies, which will be distributed at both locations.
