State troopers are investigating an officer-involved shooting that left a man dead in Houma.

Houma Police and Terrbonne Sheriff's deputies were called to the area of Stovall and Harris streets at about 3 a.m. Sunday, with witnesses reporting shots fired.

When they arrived, officers and deputies found a man with a gun. Houma Police told WVUE that the man started talking about suicide by cop, and fired at them.

State Police say only that during the encounter police shot the man, who later died at a nearby hospital.

The man is identified as Cory Truxillo, 43, of Thibodaux.

No officers or deputies were injured during the incident, troopers say.

The Louisiana State Police Crime Lab responded to process the incident scene and the investigation is active and ongoing with no further information available at this time.
