Gunfire rang out after a funeral repast on Read Boulevard Tuesday evening, killing a woman and injuring a man, our media partners at The Advocate/Times Picayune report.

Family and friends identified the woman who was killed was Kim Boutte, 55, big queen of the Spirit of Fi Yi Yi black-masking Indians, often called Mardi Gras Indians, the newspapers report.

The double shooting occurred around 5:30 p.m. at a banquet hall in the 7300 block of Read Boulevard, according to the New Orleans Police Department. Both victims were taken to a hospital, where Boutte died. Police said the male victim was listed in stable condition, the newspapers report.
