Man killed in Terrebone Parish officer-involved shooting identified

A Montegut man has been identified as the man killed in officer-involved shooting in Terrebone Parish.

State Police have identified the man as 54-year-old Gary Rodriguez Jr. who allegedly fired shots at Terrebone Parish Sheriff's Deputies on Tuesday. During a stand off with law enforcement, Rodriguez was struck by gunfire from deputies after he allegedly fired several shots at officers, according to State Police.

Deputies were responded to a call of an aggravated assault at a residence on Mimosa Lane in Montegut. Troopers say Rodriguez was armed with a rifle.

After being struck, Rodriguez was transported to a local hospital where he later died from his injuries. No one else was injured during the encounter.

The Louisiana State Police will serve as the lead investigative agency. The Louisiana State Police Crime Lab responded to the scene to assist with the investigation which remains active.
