An arrest has been made in connection with a Sunday shooting at a Vernon Parish club.
Monday, Sheriff Sam Craft of the Vernon Parish Sheriff's Office announced the arrest of 25-year-old Andrez Shamad Jones of Fort Polk in connection with a shots fire call at a local club at around 1:34 a.m., Sunday. VPSO says the shooting happened at a club located in the area of Billy Goat Hill.
Deputies say a caller indicated that there was a victim with a gunshot wound inside the club and that at the time of the call, the whereabouts and identity of the shooter were unknown.
VPSO Deputies along with Leesville Police Officers, and New Llano Police Officers responded to the club's location and secured the scene. Deputies say they found a man suffering from a gun shot wound to the calf of his leg. Two other victims had also left the establishment en route to Fort Polk to seek medical treatment for gun shot wounds to their ankles.
The man found at the scene was transported by ambulance to an area hospital for medical treatment.
Following interviews with witnesses, Andrez Jones was identified as the shooter. Witnesses told investigators that a disturbance began in the bar earlier in the evening and eventually spilled out into the bar parking lot. Witnesses also say that Jones was allegedly involved in the disturbance and escalated the situation by going to a vehicle and grabbing a gun.
Witnesses told deputies that attempts were made to restrain Jones but he began to fire the handgun towards a crowd outside the building, causing the large group of people to flee. Detectives observed numerous shoes lying in the parking lot area as well as other items scattered about from the fleeing crowd. It is believed that Jones fired no less that 6 rounds into the crowd.
A 9 mm firearm was taken into evidence.
Jones was arrested and charged with three counts of Aggravated Second Degree Battery with a Firearm and one count of Illegal Discharge of a Firearm. Bond has not been set and Jones remains in the VPSO jail.
