The Louisiana Workforce Commission has started to distribute $300 Federal Unemployment Compensation (FPUC) payments, along with other unemployment benefits, to Louisianians. Since distribution began on Monday, January 4, LWC has distributed more than $41 million to 139,320 individuals.
LWC officials are urging all claimants to monitor their HiRE accounts closely and to utilize online resources to reduce hold times and resolve claim issues whenever possible. They're also asking for the public's patience.
"At this time we are asking for the public's patience as we process claims and continue to update our system for paying benefits following the passage of the extended CARES Act programs," said LWC Secretary Ava Dejoie.
In a virtual news conference on Friday, Dejoie said the department's main method of communication is via HiRE accounts, WAFB reports.
The original CARES Act provisions enacted in April 2020 expired on December 26, 2020. New legislation was signed on December 27, but complete guidance from USDOL remains outstanding for states to provide certain provisions regarding the new bill.
LWC is also implementing new requirements such as identity verification. Because of the magnitude of the endeavor, LWC has published a new set of FAQs to help claimants navigate the extension. The UI call center has also extended its hours.
