LSU is reversing its decision to hold a virtual commencement ceremony in December and will instead celebrate graduates in person.

In a message to students and staff, Interim President Tom Galligan said the decision was due to "overwhelming feedback" the university has received in support of an in-person ceremony.

The ceremony will be held on December 18 inside Tiger Stadium. It will be open to fall graduates as well as those who graduated this past spring and summer.

Students who don't feel comfortable attending in person will have an opportunity to participate in a virtual commencement, also being held in December.

Graduates will be seated in the stands of Tiger Stadium with their guests, will be socially distanced from other groups, and will not walk across the stage.

If the state's event guidelines change at any point, the details could change or the event could even be canceled, officials say.
