LSU says they expect a majority of campus operations to return to normal by the start of the Fall 2021 semester.

UPDATE: We've reached out to other universities. UL says they "are in the planning process and are not ready yet to announce our fall plans."

In a letter to students, LSU Interim President Thomas Galligan, Jr. said that the they expect the university to operate the way it did before the onset of the pandemic.

Galligan said that students could expect a return to face-to-face courses and operations similar to fall 2019 assuming that vaccinations proceed as expected.

"We will closely monitor the distribution of the vaccine and will make any adjustments to our plans that are necessary," Galligan said. "Of course, we will follow all state and CDC guidelines, with the safety of our campus community as our guidepost. We intend to do all we can to return our campus safely to pre-COVID-19 operations."

There is no update on whether summer session and intersession would return to face-to-face instruction. Galligan said the university will be closely monitoring the state's COVID-19 progress and are expected to update regarding the outlook of those sessions.

Students are asked to monitor for updates as they become available and learn more about the vaccine and survey at

The university is also currently working through plans for the Spring 2021 commencement.
